This command allows you to "peek" at a file's contents, giving you an idea of what's in it. You can do a file peek in three ways:
(1) By [Option]-double-clicking a file's entry in the list, or,
(2) By clicking the "Peek" button in the File Info window. Both of these allow you to peek at that one file only.
(3) Selecting a group of files, then selecting "File Peek" ([Command]-P) from the "List" menu. You can peek at each file in sequence; to go onto the next file, click "Continue", to stop viewing files, click "Stop".
The File Peek window shows version data on all files. In addition, it will show different things, depending on the type of file being peeked at. For the following types of graphic files:
• MacPaint files,
• PICT files,
•Encapsulated PostScript files,
a scaled version of the graphic contained in the file is shown. For files that are programs (type APPL), the file's signature resource is shown (along with some other information). For any other type of file, the contents of the file's data fork is shown in hexadecimal and ascii in a scroll-able box.
